WOW! How fast time flys. I had every intention of finishing putting up photos of Lindsay and Reid's wedding, but never was able to get to it! So now the New Year is upon us and we are busy trying to get as much done as we can! Of course, now that I sit and reflect - - - I'm not sure I can tell you what it is we are trying to get done!
I really didn't realize how much I would love being retired! AND would love being able to do whatever, whenever I wanted to. I love being able to play racquetball, tennis, golf, workout, or whatever every day and not have to worry too much about the weather.
I really miss all my family and friends. That is the one drawback to being here in Arizona. We went back to Seattle for Christmas - which was nice for seeing both sides of our families. BUT it sucked due to the weather. We got snowed on for 8 straight days - which didn't allow us to drive to Portland to see my sisters. I was really bummed about that.
I totally expected I would get right into part time teaching at the local community college here, as well as continue my private tutoring. To date, I have not done either. We are still working on getting the house fixed up the way we want it. We'd taken a break after working on it a few months at the beginning of 2008. We got tired of making decisions on color, style, materials, etc. Now we both have begun looking at doing more interior and exterior "decorating". I guess it is a never ending process!
Robert is really enjoying being the commissioner of his Men's Senior 3.5 Tennis League. And I think he is really glad that someone near and dear to him (ME!!) knows a lot about leagues and how to do the behind-the-scenes stuff. I am again going to run the Grand Canyon State Games in June (the Spring GCSG event) and Robert will be my assistant tournament director again. He did such a fabulous job last year that he now has to live up to my expectations! I was asked to run a Winter GCSG event this Winter. They wanted a tournament in Jan or Feb. Both of those months aren't workable due to already existing local and national tournaments. So next year, in 2010, I will try to run one in November or December. BUT that is it! I don't want to run any more tournaments than 2 per year. That way I will have time to PLAY!!!
Robert and I have been involved in having our Living Trust and Wills drawn up. While working on them, we have had to decide what we want regarding our deaths. Do we want to be buried or cremated? Do we want a funeral or memorial service or anything at all? Do we want a burial plot? Lots of things to think about. I have not enjoyed thinking about all that, and yet, it needed to be done. The more we plan now, the less difficult it will be for our kids and family and friends then. My father had everything planned for and arranged and paid for. It was as smooth a transition as one could be. That is what I want when I go.
I have several projects I am working on. One is to scan all my photos (from before the digital camera age). Anyone who knows me well knows that I take lots of photos, and have them organized in photo albums. LOTS OF PHOTO ALBUMS! I am going through them and scanning the pictures and I eventually want to make DVD's of them. This will take me years! I started with the albums from when I was in high school and grade school. I've gotten to 1987 - my son Erik is 1 year old, and Nicole hasn't been born yet. As I scan the photos, I have enjoyed reliving the past and pondering the memories! Have you looked at your old pictures lately? It's a blast! It will take me years to complete this project!
I also am converting all my VCR tapes to DVD's. I bought a program and hardware to do this and am learning how to do it. It's a lot of work, but fun too. This will probably be a never ending project!
I also have started a Family Tree Maker program to enter all my ancestry data. I had started this years and years ago, and then lost interest. Plus I can't find it now. My goal is to enter all the current data along with pictures, videos, documents etc into the program. And then work backwards through my ancestry. I have several genealogical books that have my family history is documented in because I am related to Daniel Boone, and the Scholls Foot people. This project will take me way past my old age. I am hoping one of my kids, or both, will take it up after me.
Blessings to all who read this, if anyone does!
